Our School Profile Welcome to Minooka Intermediate School: The Fifth and Sixth Grade Center! Our school is preparing for the move into the new Fifth and Sixth Grade Building, currently being built next to Minooka Junior High School on Ridge Road. The new school will open in the fall of 2009. Currently, our student population is 493 students. Our school district serves the communities of Minooka, Channahon, Shorewood, Joliet, and Morris creating a diverse racial, ethnic, socio-economic, and linguistic student population which we value and consider to be one of our dynamic strengths. Our Creed
The creed of Minooka Intermediate School is: “We embrace our diversity. We create an environment that is conducive to learning and we feel confident enough to be ourselves.” Our mission at Minooka Intermediate School is to make the transition from elementary school to the junior high as smooth as possible. We view our school as the crucial bridge from the elementary school to the junior high and beyond. Fifth and Sixth grades promise many changes for both students and their parents. Some of these changes are having six to seven different teachers, opening lockers, dressing for Physical Education, navigating many hallways, leaving behind one group of friends to mingle with a new group of friends, and the academic demands of more assignments and materials. The staff at Minooka Intermediate School is aware of the difficulties that these changes may cause. We strive to provide our students with a climate and structure to make this transition easily achievable.
Our Goals for 2008-2009 School Year
The goals that staff and parents of Minooka Intermediate School have identified as areas of focus and growth are as follows: Our first goal is focusing on incorporating and improving writing skills throughout the curriculum. The second goal is for teachers to expand differentiation of instruction to increase student academic success. Also, a Response to Intervention team and Interventionists will be trained to help students be more successful by supporting teachers with suggestions and resources and providing individualized instruction for students achieving below standard levels. Another goal is Engaged Learning. Utilizing our 120 new laptop computers, teachers will integrate more technology into their daily lessons and create learning experiences that reflect real life problems. It’s Going to be a Great Year
There are lots of fun things to look forward to in fifth and sixth grade including meeting new friends and new teachers, great learning experiences, field trips, school dances, band, chorus, math club, book club, student council, sports, book fairs, and many more. Minooka Intermediate School is a wonderful place for your children to grow and learn. We look forward to the year ahead with our staff and students.
