Minooka Junior High School Students Attend Government Day in Grundy County
On Tuesday, February 8, junior high school students from Grundy County went to Morris for the annual county celebration of Government Day. The students were the county's essay contest winners who studied about and wrote essays concerning specific county government jobs. Current county officials judged and selected the winning essays from all participating county schools.
Students spent the day learning more about county government and were afforded a real "hands on" experience. The students participated in a mock county board meeting, toured Grundy County facilities, and visited a courtroom to see the role of courts and judges in the judicial process.
Minooka Junior High School had sixth, seventh, and eighth grade winning essayists. The student winners and their government roles for the day were:
Jonathon B. - County Board; Valerie B. - Solid Waste Coordinator; Coryn C. - County Board Secretary; Tiffany C. - GEDC Director; Ashley C. - Public Defender; Kristen D. - Adult Probation; Mary D. - Circuit Clerk; Chris E. - County Administrator; Ashley G. - Adult Probation; Jordan H. - County Board; Lyndsay J. - County Board; Andrew J. - Juvenile Probation; Lyndsay K. - Health Administrator; Scott L. - County Board; Matthew M. - States Attorney; Kate M. - Circuit Judge; Julian P. - County Board; Laura P. - Associate Circuit Judge; Stephanie R. - County Board; Valeri R. - County Board; Shawn S. - Assessor; Mallory S. - County Board; Hayley T. - County Board; Ali W. - Superintendent of Education; and Jodi Z. - Coroner.
The Minooka Junior High School administration is pleased about the student performance and outcome of the essay contest. Social studies teachers Darren Lustik, Cassie Van Haelst, Greg Wood, Georgia Snow, and Doreen Swanson are proud of the fine efforts of their students and accompanied the winners who participated in Government Day on February 8.
