In first grade here at Minooka Elementary we focus on the basic skills. We want the children to become quite familiar with steady beat and know the difference between that and rhythmic beat. We accomplish this through songs to sing and play; games; and movement and dance. Through these techniques we also will develop our singing skills of So and Mi and eventually adding La. We will learn how to use the mallets on the barred instruments, focusing on our hands together method and our alternating method. Eventually, we will write music on a three lined staff and improvise melodies through our singing sounds.
