In second grade here at Minooka Elementary we continue with steady beat and rhythmic beat. This is the year we begin reading music during our study with keyboards. We begin learning where C, D, E, F, G, A, and B sit; starting with middle C and ending at high C. We also begin to look at the different kinds of notes, lengths of notes, names of symbols as well as how to play them on the keyboards. While we are doing all of this we are still developing our voices as we work through So, Mi, La, adding Re and Do. As we add accompaniments to our songs with the barred instruments, we will begin looking at cross over patterns and really focus on ensemble playing. By the end of second grade the students need to master all simple ta, ti and rest combinations.
