What Mr. Curtis has been reading...
Since I tell my students to read, read, and read some more, I think I should put my money where my mouth is and read too.  Lucky for me, I love to read (and that makes my job - talking about books pretty awesome), and I read all sorts of different stuff.  I can't say that I recommend all these books to 6th graders, but I thought I'd show you what I've been reading.

I've been reading a ton of books that take place in Ireland in preparation for my trip there.  Artemis is based on stories from Irish mythology and is one of the most fun, action packed books I've read in years.  Can't wait to read book 2.
My son and I just watched the Stuart Little movie, and he loved it so much we just checked out the book from the library to read together.  So far it's tons of fun.  Andy keeps asking to read about the airplane mouse.

Thousands of years ago, after a war between the city states of Greece and the city of Troy, a hero named Odysseus tried to get home.  Along the way he encountered angry gods, a cyclops, ghosts, sirens, sea monsters, and a group of men trying to steal his home and murder his son.  This is his story.
One of the first spy stories ever, two young men discover a group of German's in the Baltic sea acting very suspicious.  They think they may have stumbled upon the beginnings of WWI, a German invasion of England.    Also, another Irish author.
I've been taking part in a contest the last few months - try to read the 500 best books of all time.  This one definitely isn't for kids, but it's number 1 on that list, so I'm trying my best to finish it before I leave for Ireland, which is where James Joyce is from.
