We have been using the Saxon Math series to teach Math in grades 1 through 5 for about the past five years. As a result, our students have scored very well on the ISAT. Concepts are spiraled in Saxon Math, which means that once a concept is taught, it will "show up" on homework and tests throughout the year. The ultimate goal in Saxon Math is for students to master the concepts they learn. Students in 5th grade also need to master their multiplication facts. It becomes very frustrating and difficult for students to multiply multi-digit numbers and solve long division problems if they don't know their facts. It cannot be stressed enough how important it is for students to memorize their multiplication facts.
TeacherEase:
Online grading program used by the teachers to keep track of grades and other data pertaining to the progress of your child. You can sign up for a password to access to your child's grades by using the link for "TeacherEase Help" on the District's website. You can also email your child's teachers from the TeacherEase site. Weekly Work Note: The first day of each week the students in 5B will bring home their graded papers with a Weekly Work Note stapled to them. Please check over your child's papers, sign the note, and have your child return the note to school the next day. If you have questions or comments regarding the graded papers, there is a place on the note for you to share your thoughts.
