Dear Parents and Guardians, Minooka 201 engages in ongoing efforts to ensure high levels of security and privacy in the use of online data. We are writing to inform you that a security incident took place on December 22, 2024 affecting PowerSchool school districts across the globe. PowerSchool determined that an unauthorized party gained access to certain PowerSchool Student Information System data using a compromised PowerSchool support credential. After becoming aware of the incident, PowerSchool immediately took steps to address the issue as well as informed law enforcement of the unauthorized access. On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, PowerSchool notified Minooka 201 of this unauthorized access. The following information about your student is reasonably believed to have been affected: first, middle, and last name, birth date, address, phone number, gender, ethnicity/race, language, school name, school/state student ID numbers, general medical alert information, guardian alert, guardian name, enrollment information, lunch waiver information, and student PowerSchool login ID. No passwords, social security numbers, photos, or financial account information were impacted by this incident. Minooka 201 remains committed to assessing any potential ramifications for its students who may be impacted by the PowerSchool security incident. PowerSchool has indicated a full report is being conducted by an independent third-party and additional information will be released on January 17, 2025. When we receive more relevant information from PowerSchool, we will provide another update to our families. Pursuant to the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. § 1232g;34 CFR Part 99) (“FERPA”) and Illinois Student Online Personal Protection Act (105ILCS 85/1) (“SOPPA”) we are notifying all families in Minooka 201 of this incident.
