How To Use This Site

With the new site comes some new concepts used, especially compared to how the older site functioned. To help create more organization, we used some new tools in the web development world to make things hopefully easier to find.

Accordions

Accordions offer a simple way to group common items in section without taking up a large amount of screen real estate. By using a clickable header, the content can expand to show grouped content when needed and hide content when not in use.

Below we have an example of an accordion. Click on the headers to expand the content.

First Panel

Welcome to the first panel of content. If you click on another heading, you will also see that panel's content.

Second Panel

You have found the second panel. Notice that if you came from another panel, it will stay open while opening up another panel.

Third Panel

Accordions open and close, similar to the instrument of the same name. This allows us to put a lot of content on one page while making it easier to navigate or find that information.

We may also set up the accordion to automatically close a panel when switching to another panel. This is usually done to save on space on the page and make content a bit easier to follow.

Tabs

Tabs are another way we can arrange content on a page. We can group similar types of content in tabs, which the user can switch as they see fit.

Here is an example of tabs in use:

First Panel

Here is the first panel. You will notice that the panel is already open and showing content. Clicking other tabs will open that panel.

Second Panel

You found the second tab! You can see the other tab's content is now replaced with this content.

With Finalsite, our content manager, the tabs will also change into accordions on mobile screens.

Calendars

The calendars on our site are pulled in from each school's public Google Calendar. We have created a page where you can view the calendars in various configurations. For each school and the district, we have a tab set up for that calendar. Athletics are run through the Finalsite Athletic Module, which create the calendar for that. We also have a calendar set up for all calendars together so you can follow all of the school events in one spot.

Following a single calendar

For each of the seven schools and the district, we have tabs set up for the single calendar. If you want to connect a single calendar to a calendar service you use (Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook). Even if you are interested in multiple calendars, it might be useful to follow each one individually to keep it organized.

To follow a single calendar:

  1. Navigate to our calendar page.
  2. Select the tab of the calendar you would like to follow.
  3. On the top right, there are a couple of icons. Select the RSS feed icon.
    Feed Icon
  4. A window will pop up, giving different options to follow the calendar.
  5. Hover over the ICAL button to get a set of options for the calendar feed.
    1. For a standard iCal, click on the option, copy and paste the feed url to your calendar of choice.
    2. For Google iCal, click on that option, copy and paste the url to Google Calendar in a new calendar.
    3. If you have a default calendar app setup on your computer, you can use the last option to import to that.
    4. For iOS, follow the instructions on Finalsite support to set up the calendar.

Following multiple calendars at once

To follow multiple calendars, we will first have to filter the calendars you want to follow and then follow it like above.

  1. Navigate to our calendar page.
  2. Select the tab of the calendars you would like to follow (either All or Athletics).
  3. On the top right, there are a couple of icons. Select the filter icon.

  5. Select the RSS feed icon from the top right.
    Feed Icon
  6. A window will pop up, giving different options to follow the calendar. Make sure to only do the next steps to the options that says "All selected Public Calendars".

Mobile App

Finalsite also offers a mobile app that will draw from the various modules on our site. Through the app, you will be able to see posts, calendars, athletics, our directory, and some important links. The app will not give all of the information the full site will, however, Finalsite is always updating the mobile app functionality, which we will implement when those updates are available.

Each user of the mobile app can filter the various feeds that empty into the app. Once you set up your filters, the app will save those setting for you, allowing you to continually follow what you want to see.

In the Posts, Events, and Athletics tabs of the app, there is a filter button on the top right. Deselect the posts, athletic teams, or calendars you do not want to see, then hit the back button. This will set your filters specific to your needs.
