Students, Parents and Families of Minooka CCSD 201,
This is a communication that we had hoped we would not need to send, but based on the metrics in our regions and the subsequent quarantining requirements of our students and staff we will be returning to Remote Learning for all students from November 30, 2020 through January 15, 2021. We intend to return to our current Hybrid Learning Model on January 19, 2021.
This pivot back to Remote Learning was not made lightly. We have intended to continue with in person learning so long as:
- There remains no evidence that the virus is spreading to students or staff within our schools, and
- We remain able to adequately staff our buildings with appropriate instruction and safety measures.
When we last discussed our plan in October with the Board of Education we said clearly that we would be watching the IDPH published County Wide School Metrics to inform our decisions. Right now each of our counties indicate "Substantial" community spread in either 3 or all 4 of the areas, which would indicate that full remote learning is appropriate. Despite the high positivity rates of both cases and tests and the vast number of new cases, our safety procedures are working. Our staff are keeping students spaced out so that mass quarantines are avoided and the possibility of transmission is minimized. Though more people are contracting COVID-19, they are not contracting it from school.
But while we have handled the safety and controlled the spread within our schools admirably, the number of staff and students that are quarantined due to close contacts or signs of COVID-19 symptoms is causing many difficulties throughout our schools. You can track the number of cases and quarantines on our website at www.min201.org/our-district/
Families can expect specific information on Remote Learning schedules to come from their individual school administration over the next week. In the meantime, we urge everyone to use caution and follow the recommended social distancing guidelines over the holiday times so that we are all ready for In-Person Instruction to resume in January. Please do your part in keeping our communities safe and reducing the transmission of this virus. We will get through this together if we all do our part, together.
Finally, on behalf of our entire staff we want to thank our families for their continued partnership during this year as our students and staff develop new ways of learning and interacting. We could not do this without your help, and we are so grateful for your engagement and collaboration to aid our efforts as we continue to adjust to this new reality.
As always, stay safe everyone.
